If you suffer from myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism, you may be interested in eliminating this eye problem completely. A new non-invasive method offers all the advantages of laser use without the consequences that it can cause.
Today many people suffer from vision problems. Having myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism is quite common. However, some consider correcting their vision by undergoing eye surgery, something that carries many risks. Therefore, very few end up doing it.
However, a team of engineers from Columbia University has developed a totally innovative procedure to correct both myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism. The results are very encouraging and improve the more traditional options.
Correct vision with different options
Although a non-invasive method to correct vision has been developed, we believe it is convenient to explore the other options that have been present so far. Some of them are the following:
- Glasses or contact lenses: it is an option that is not permanent and does not help to correct the vision problem. Today there are models of very stylish glasses and contact lenses that are adapted to the needs of each person.
- Corrective surgery: it is the other way to get rid of glasses and contact lenses and not have to use these options anymore. Although it tends to have a high success rate, it is an invasive method that, in some cases, can lead to permanent vision loss.
- Laser eye surgery: It is less invasive and its success rate is also high. The problem with choosing this option to correct vision is that it thins and weakens the cornea. This can lead to problems over time.
A new non-invasive method
Engineers at Columbia University studied all available options to investigate a much less invasive alternative to the eyes, but one that continued to yield good results. The chosen technique was directed by Sinisa Vulkelic makes use of lasers.
As we mentioned, lasers tend to thin and weaken the cornea. Taking this into account, the new method developed, although it uses lasers, does not have such consequences. Some of the characteristics of this new method are the following:
- The laser emits pulses of very low energy but with a high repetition rate. In this way, damage to the cornea is avoided. What is sought is to change its shape.
- The induction of low-density plasma ionizes the water molecules in the cornea.
All of the above forms small collagen fibers in the eye that alter the properties of the cornea. This does not mean that it is destroyed, but rather that its macrostructure changes.
All these characteristics make this new method an excellent option for all those who have thin corneas or who suffer from dry eyes. Thus, these problems would not mean that they had to avoid undergoing an effective and definitive treatment to end their vision problems.
It goes far beyond correcting vision
This innovative method can allow many more people to correct their vision problems without risking their eye health. However, this method has many more advantages, such as helping to correct other types of conditions.
One of them is osteoarthritis. Although it has nothing to do with eye problems, collagen is involved in this condition. So, this new method to correct vision could act on tissues rich in collagen. It would help in this way to improve the problem that may be affecting them.
The new method to correct vision promises all the benefits that a laser treatment can have, minus the consequences derived from its use. The cornea, thanks to this new way of correcting vision, will be protected against possible weakening.
Do you suffer from any vision problems? Have you ever considered surgery to remove it completely?
Now that you know that there is a new method to correct your myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism, even cataracts, would you dare to try this new way to eliminate the root problem?
